Haptic Calibrator


    The setting of material properties of objects in virtual environments is an important task in the development process of simulators focused on training of psychomotor skills. Such properties allow the force and tactile feedback by haptic devices (from system to users) during the manipulation. By the use of haptics is possible to change and improve users perception in the virtual environment, increasing the realism of simulation.

    The Haptic Calibrator was designed to help the calibration process of materials properties, particullarly for systems that integrate the family of Phantom devices, well know in simulations and applications for Medical and Engineerng. The calibrator offers real time simulation of haptic properties, allowing adequation and setting of values for posterior exporting and use in simulators.

    The properties available for calibration are:

  • stiffness
  • friction - static and dynamic
  • damping
  • pop through
  • puncture friction - static and dynamic


    The Haptic Calibrator presents some predefined properties that can be used as a start for the definition of specific property values, according to user's need.

    The software is registered at INPI and available for free. It is compatible with the Windows operational system and works with the family of haptic devices Geomagic Touch / PHANTOM.
